Recently, I had the pleasure of stumbling across an old favorite of mine, Quadrophenia by “The Who”. Wow, what a great album. It’s a double album set from 1973 when “The Who” were in their heyday. Now although I can hear some of the old Gens saying “Oh Yeah! I forgot about that one! It’s been so long!”
I can also hear some of the younger ears saying “C’mon that stuff is fifty years old! I’ve got new stuff that speaks to ‘My Generation’. Why do I want to listen to that old stuff?” Well because it speaks to a lot of generations.
That’s Right! Even though we may have grown up seemingly worlds apart, some similarities remain. It’s about a teenage boy growing up in England in the 60’s and every song speaks to his physical and emotional experiences in that time of his life. Living at home with Parents, first jobs, girls, ambitions, looking stylish, fitting in, gangs, fighting, drugs, self confidence/doubt, split personalities, confusion, frustration, sex, love, hate, emotional overload to name a few.
Sound familiar? Yeah. I thought so, but aside from the lyrics, the music is just so good. It carries the same musical theme throughout the whole album and then culminates with the crescendo of “Love Reign Over Me”. So, do yourself a favor regardless of how old you are and sit down with some good quality headphones or a good sound system. Grab some snacks and a few cold fizzies and treat yourself to an absolute classic. Oh, and You’re Welcome!
